The oldest printing firm in Abilene, and one of the town's
oldest businesses, Abilene Printing & Stationery
shares a common history with the Abilene Reporter News. The two were
founded by Charles E. Gilbert as a single company in 1882. From
1888 to 1924, Abilene Printing was the operator of the Abilene Reporter
(now the Abilene Reporter News), as well as being a commercial printing
business. In 1924 the publishing and printing business were divided into
two separate corporations - The Reporter Publishing Co. and Abilene
Printing and Stationery Co. George Anderson, who started to work as
a printer in the company in 1894, became owner and president of Abilene
Printing & Stationery at the time. He was active in the
company's management until his death in 1964.
Abilene Printing & Stationery, now under the ownership
of Mrs. Charles Lacy, Jr., has its retail operation at 218 Cedar
Street. The president of the company is Harlan Owen, Jr., with
over 35 years experience in the business.
Abilene Quick Print and Copy Center was opened in the late
80's as the first downtown copy center and quick print shop, and is
located inside Abilene Printing & Stationery. Check out our
