The oldest printing firm in Abilene, and one of the town's oldest businesses, Abilene Printing & Stationery shares a common history with the Abilene Reporter News. The two were founded by Charles E. Gilbert as a single company in 1882.

From 1888 to 1924, Abilene Printing was the operator of the Abilene Reporter (now the Abilene Reporter News), as well as being a commercial printing business. In 1924 the publishing and printing business were divided into two separate corporations: The Reporter Publishing Co. and Abilene Printing and Stationery Co.

George Anderson, who started to work as a printer in the company in 1894, became owner and president of Abilene Printing & Stationery at the time. He was active in the company's management until his death in 1964.
